Our Mission

Our Mission

Established in 2015, Soles Montessori (formerly called Estrellitas Home) was founded in the spirit of a loving and diverse environment where the individual learning pace and interests are valued. Estrellitas Home at 1414 Delafield Place NW is now called Soles Montessori. Our daycare is dedicated to nurturing diversity and respect for others and oneself.

Our mission is to provide the loving care and encouragement necessary for children to become independent, creative and confident learners who accept new challenges and are active participants their communities. Our program serves infants, toddlers, and preschoolers (6 months to 5 years).

We do this by providing a nurturing educational environment in accordance with Montessori principles and by offering an exclusively Spanish-language immersion environment. We are one of only 27 childcare centers in DC to offer Spanish-language learning.

Our Staff

Our Staff

Our program is staffed by an outstanding group of dedicated teachers and professional caregivers. They are educated and trained in early childhood education, Spanish Immersion curriculum, and Montessori principles to provide the environment and activities appropriate for our children. Each classroom is directed by a Montessori certified lead teacher.

Maribel Shehab

Maribel Shehab brings her passion for helping young kids and more than 10 years of experience working with youth to her role as Director of Soles Montessori.

Maribel received her Associate's Degree in Social Work from the National University of Cuyo in Mendoza, Argentina. She later trained at the Barrie Institute for Advanced Montessori Studies in Maryland, where she received her infant and toddler and early childhood American Montessori Society (AMS) teacher certification.  During that time, she also earned her Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential. She is currently earning her Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education and Special Education at Montgomery College/Maryland University.

Before founding Estrellitas Home, Maribel worked with youth in Argentina to help match them with foster care homes. She moved to the United States to start Estrellitas with her sister, Marilyn Medrano.  In addition to founding Soles Montessori, Maribel also owns Montessori Yoga—a yoga studio dedicating to offering Montessori-inspired yoga classes for infants, toddlers, and families in a Spanish-immersion environment.
